South Burnett CTC - Working for our Community
ACICC provides an opportunity for young people from Cherbourg, Murgon and Wondai to participate in netball and touch football competitions. There are 5 junior netball teams that catch a bus to Kingaroy to play in the Kingaroy junior competition. There are two age groups: 9 – 11 year olds and 12 – 14 year olds. There is training in Murgon on Tuesday afternoons and Cherbourg on Thursday afternoons. At these training sessions, girls play a range of games and drills in order to get them ready for the competition that run on Saturdays. There is a lot of fun and enjoyment that happens at both the training sessions and at the games on Saturday.

Touch football is a fantastic opportunity for young Indigenous people from Cherbourg and Murgon to participate in the local Wondai competition. This runs on Thursday nights with transport provided. CTC is looking at entering another team into the second competition which is due to start next month. This team will be made up of 10 – 14 year olds who would benefit from playing touch football. The older and more experienced players will act as mentors for them to encourage good lifestyle choices. There will continue to be two older teams entered into the competition for next season as these players are doing a fantastic job at competing in the senior competition.

This opportunity allows young people to play the sports they enjoy that wouldn’t have otherwise had the chance to play.
